Woman Convicted Of Lying About Abduction, Rape
GREELEY, Colo. (AP) — A Fort Collins woman has been convicted for lying about being kidnapped and raped by a former co-worker.
A jury in Greeley found 21-one-year-old Katherine Elizabeth Bennett guilty of attempting to influence a public servant and two tampering with evidence counts on Thursday.
Last November, she accused 25-year-old Dustin Toth of Windsor of luring her to a Safeway parking lot and then abducting, drugging and sexually assaulting her. However, investigators say her story changed several times and that she deleted a text message proving that the initial report was false.
Toth was arrested because of her allegations. During the trial, he testified about how he lost his job and nearly lost his military career.
Bennett faces up to nine years in prison when she's sentenced on Oct. 24.
