8 New Restaurants & Stores Move Into Renovated Union Station
DENVER (CBS4) - Amtrak service returned to Denver's Union Station at the end of February, but it will soon be much more than just a transportation hub. Organizers announced Thursday that the station will have eight new restaurants and stores opening in July.
The historic Union Station opened two weeks ago after a three-year renovation with changes that cost nearly $500 million. Developers hope it will be a transportation hub for the next 100 years for the entire region. In addition to transportation, the inside of Union Station will have the Crawford Hotel, restaurants, and retail stores for everyone to enjoy.
Among the stores moving in are Milkbox Ice Creamery, Pigtrain Coffee, Eatmore Burgers and Brats, and the Tattered Cover Bookstore. It will make the new and improved Union Station much more than a transportation hub. The businesses and the 112-room hotel will be open to the public starting July 12.
Other future additions to the station include an underground bus facility opening in May and a commuter rail that will take passengers to Denver International Airport starting in 2016. It's expected to bring many changes to downtown Denver.
"It's really kind of the start of this whole revitalization of LoDo," said Tara Miller from RTD FasTracks. "The Union Station is iconic in Denver, so we're really excited to make it more bustling by having this multimodal hub."
Both passengers and developers alike are excited about the new and improved Union Station and the positive changes it will bring to Denver.
