$3.7M Judgment In Colorado Telemarketing Deception

DENVER (AP) — The state attorney general's office says a Denver judge has ordered a man and his magazine telemarketing companies to pay $3.7 million in restitution, fines and fees for deceiving almost 5,000 consumers.

Court documents say Raymond B. Jones Jr. and his companies used deceptive practices to deceive 4,924 customers into fraudulent contracts for magazine subscriptions.

A judge ordered that Jones and his companies pay nearly $1.7 million in restitution, a $2 million fine, plus more than $81,000 in attorney fees and costs to the state attorney general's office.

The attorney general's office reached a separate settlement with Jones' mother, Cora Jones, in which she agreed to a permanent ban on participating in magazine telemarketing.
