DIA's West Terminal Shuts Down Completely This Weekend

DENVER (CBS4)- The big detour at Denver International Airport will soon be gone but not before a full closure this weekend.

From 11 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Saturday drivers will not be able to access the West Terminal at DIA. All traffic for those flights will be diverted to the East Terminal.

That impacts carriers like United Airlines and British Airways and Lufthansa.

After that five-hour period the West Terminal will be open and Saturday morning will look a lot like it did before the big detour was in place.

Drivers will notice other changes as well.

The 14-floor elevator cores for the hotel are complete. The next phase will be the floors for the 519 guest rooms.

The first four floors of the public transit center are also complete. The glass for the canopy which will span over the train arrivals and departures will soon be put into place.

That's where the new East Rail Line will drop off and pickup passengers before making the return trip to Denver's Union Station.

Later this fall detours will hit DIA again, this time affecting the East Terminal.
