Serious Stomach Virus Getting Closer To Colorado

DENVER (CBS4) - A serious stomach virus is traveling across the country and has gotten as close to Colorado as Kansas and Nebraska.

Investigators think imported produce might be to blame. Now the government wants to make sure imported produce, cheese and other foods are inspected at ports and borders.

Under the new proposal importers must verify their suppliers meet the same food safety standards as required in the U.S.

Imported fruit and cheese has been responsible for many recent outbreaks, including hepatitis A linked to a frozen berry mix sold at Costco last month.
