1 Dead After Car Crashes Into Home

DENVER (CBS4) - Police in Denver are investigating after a car crashed into a home in Green Valley Ranch Sunday, killing the driver.

Police and firefighters rushed to the home in the 20900 block of East 49th Aveune just after 8 a.m. When they arrived they found a car had smashed into the front of the home.

Police said the man driving the car was killed instantly.

The crash caused major damage to the home. Police say it was a close call for the entire neighborhood.

"Neighbors tell me it was an act of God that no one else was hurt. They say the car came speeding around the embankment, hit the grass, went airborne into the house and nearly missing a gas gage," Detective John White with Denver police said.

A neighbor described the crash.

"I heard a loud crash," the neighbor said. "It stopped me on my computer and I heard a thump, and then another thump, and then a loud explosion."

The force of the crash knocked down the home's support beam, landed on the roof of the car and crushed the man inside.

Investigators say it's still too early to know what caused the driver to lose control.

A woman in the home happened to be taking a shower of the crash and wasn't injured.
