Body Of Marine From Parker Killed In Combat Back In Colorado
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - The body of a Marine from Parker killed in combat is back in Colorado.
Cpl. David M. Sonka, 23, died earlier this month in the Farah Province in Afghanistan. He was a member of a Marine Corps Special Operations Battalion based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Sonka's body arrived at Buckley Air Force Base on Monday. Several veterans and their family members joined firefighters and police in honoring his return. They lined up outside the gate to watch a procession carry Sonka's body to a funeral home.
"To show my respect for the family. I know the family and they are a wonderful family," Army veteran Floyd Pettijohn said.
Sonka attended Chaparral High School in Parker.
