Inmate Sentenced In Assaults Of Prison Counselors

DENVER (AP) — A U.S. Penitentiary inmate in Florence has been sentenced to 60 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for knocking two prison counselors unconscious in 2010.

Antoine Wallace was sentenced last week. Jurors convicted him in June of three counts of assaulting federal officers causing bodily injury.

Court documents say Wallace, who was in prison for a bank robbery, was angry after the counselors said he was being relieved of his unit orderly job. Wallace punched Jay O'Niel in the face, knocking him to the floor unconscious, and punched Jason Unwin in the face. After Unwin called for help, Wallace attacked again. Unwin's head struck the floor, and he was unconscious as blood formed around his head. Court documents say Unwin has permanent brain damage.
