Sister Fondly Remebers Boulder Climber Who Died In Peru
BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - Investigators think two American climbers died together during a dangerous 20,000-foot climb. Their bodies were recovered over the weekend.
Climbers Gil Weiss and Ben Horne last reported hurricane force winds before their blogs went silent.
Investigators believe one of them hung over a chunk of ice trying to figure out if they could descend to the next level. At that point investigators believe something gave out from underneath that climber, causing him to fall roughly 65 feet. Because they believe the two men were tethered together, the fall pulled the other man off the edge, causing both of them to be pulled off the larger cliff.
Weiss owned a production company in Boulder. His sister talked about what she'd like the world to remember about her brother.
"Gil had the most optimistic view on practically everything and I think it's really important to understand that you have to make the most of what you've got," said Galit Weiss."You've got to be grateful for everyone in your life."
Galit Weiss says she'll never forget about their last hike together on the first Flatiron in Boulder.
