Climbing A Few Steps Can Go A Long Way To Fight Cancer

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4) - Climbing a few flights of stairs can go a long way in the fight against cancer.

CBS4 is a proud sponsor of "Step Up for Cancer." It's a stair climbing fundraiser which brings the cancer community together and helps dozens of cancer related charities.

"Everyone has been touched by cancer in one way or another, and this is a way that we can get into the fight and make a difference," Amy Venturi with Step Up for Cancer said.

In its fourth year, Step Up is raising money for 45 Colorado cancer nonprofits.

"All of the nonprofits touch cancer in different ways, whether it's treatment, advocacy, prevention, research, different types of cancer ," Venturi said. "So to have them here under one roof we can work together."

Nonprofits like Love, Hope Strength that registers bone marrow donors at rock concerts; the Cancer Fitness Institute, which provides exercise classes for people diagnosed with cancer; and the Sky High Hope Camp, a sleep away camp especially for children with cancer, just to name a few.

"The more we work together, the greater the outcome is going to be," Venturi said.

Step Up for Cancer is this Sunday, Aug. 5 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Register online or register in person the morning of the event. CBS4's Vic Lombardi will be there to emcee the event.
