Father Dies After Thornton Shooting That Also Killed Son

THORNTON, Colo. (CBS4) - A 30-year-old Thornton man has died, the day after a shooting that also killed his 4-year-old son.

Kevin Bristol's wife called police from their home on High Street early Tuesday morning to report the shooting. Bristol's son Michael died shortly after being shot and Bristol was hospitalized.

Officials with Denver Health Medical Center said Bristol died in the hospital Wednesday morning.

Police in Thornton were expected to release more details about how the shooting happened on Wednesday afternoon. Autopsies were set to be performed on both bodies.

Neighbor David Arguello was among those who were stunned by the tragedy. He told CBS4 on Tuesday that Bristol loved his motorcycle and enjoyed helping his neighbors.

"He was a good guy. In the winter time when I was out shoveling my walks, he'd just come out here and help me," Arguello said.

Arguello says Bristol adored his son.

"He loved that little boy. He had a motorcycle and would take him out for rides around the block, and he'd play with him in the front yard."

Thornton police spokesman told CBS4 on Tuesday they don't suspect there is a gunman on the loose who is responsible for the crime.

"We don't believe that," he said. "We believe this is an isolated incident. It involves someone inside the home."
