'Men For The Cure' Gives CU Hospital New 3D Mammogram Machine

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A new 3D mammogram machine now at the University of Colorado Hospital could also mean fewer incorrect test results.

The hospital says the $500,000 tomosynthesis device is much more accurate. It can find cancers other devices miss by creating a three-dimensional image of the breast.

"In the past, normal tissue would often overlap and look like a potential cancer and we would need to bring the woman back for additional mammographic views," Lara Hardesty with CU Hospital said.

Patients will be able to get the scans in about three weeks.

The device was paid for by the Men for the Cure Foundation, which was co-founded by CBS4's Ed Greene. The Men for the Cure Foundation Launch Party will be held on June 11. For more information, visit the Men for the Cure Foundation website.
