Robbers Break Into Edgewater Home, Steal Safe

EDGEWATER, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Edgewater are searching for two or three armed men who stole a safe from a home in the middle of the night.

The crime happened just before 3 a.m. Thursday at an apartment in the Ingalls Court complex just after the family had returned from a late night trip to Walmart. The victim said the suspects probably saw her in the parking lot.

"He's around the bed saying, 'Give me your things, give me your stuff,'" the victim, who didn't want to be identified, told CBS4. "My gut feeling tells me that it's someone I know."

Six people were home at the time of the break-in but no one was hurt. Police say the men had guns but did not fire them.

The victim said when one suspect held up his gun he was obviously panicked and said he was shaking uncontrollably.

"There were weapons that were flashed but those weren't used fortunately," said Edgewater Police Chief Mary Heller. "Nobody was injured, thank goodness."

The robbers were confronted by the victim's boyfriend and they started fighting. The robbers passed up valuable items and took a small safe, a few cell phones and cameras.

"I haven't felt safe, but I guess last night just-- just infuriates me," said the victim.

Officers set up a perimeter after the crime was reported but all the suspects managed to get away.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Edgewater police at (303) 235-0500.
