Fort Collins Needs More Parking -- For Bikes

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - Business owners and city officials in Fort Collins are teaming up to solve a serious parking crunch -- for bicycles.

The Coloradoan reports that Fort Collins' Old Town area is so crammed with bicycles that on Friday and Saturday nights, cycles are locked to pretty much every immovable obstacle, from official bike racks to trees, light poles and fences.

City transportation planner Matt Wempe says it's a good problem to have, but the city is studying where to install additional parking for cyclists.

Some business owners aren't waiting. The newspaper reports that Equinox Brewing founder and owner Colin Westcott plans to tear up his parking lot and replace it with free bike parking.
