Construction Begins On 24-Hour Staffed Guard Shacks On Dillon Dam Road

SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Changes are on the way for drivers in Summit County after Denver Water started construction Monday on Dillon Dam Road.

For the past three years the road has been open only from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. due to security concerns. It will soon be open 24 hours a day.

Denver Water is building new guard shacks that will be staffed round the clock. There will also be more lights and security cameras.

The security measures were added because Lake Dillon is a major water source for the Denver metro area.

The road will be closed the entire month of August and then re-open on Labor Day.
