Colorado Gets $12M For Public Housing
DENVER (AP) - Colorado has received a $12 million grant from the federal government to improve public housing.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development says the money will help public housing authorities build, repair and renovate public housing. Regional administrator Rick Garcia says the funding can provide new roofs and energy efficient upgrades, including solar panels and renewable energy systems that cut utility costs.
The department says without more funding, local managers will be forced to choose between repairing roofs, replacing plumbing, or demolishing their properties.
