New Tubing Restrictions In Place On Various Waterways

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) - There are new restrictions on Clear Creek after a man died body surfing in Golden over the weekend.

There are now tubing bans on Clear Creek, Boulder Creek, the Saint Vrain River in Lyons and the Poudre River in Fort Collins.

A group of inner city children were eager to cool off on Tuesday, but their plan to go tubing was suddenly sunk.

"I was going to go myself just to test the water, then the police came over and said, 'No, no, no," trip organizer Christian Rubio said.

It meant an affordable float trip was no longer available to 8-year-old Francesco Sansobini.

"I was excited but I can't go now," Sansobini said.

Inner tubes, single-chambered rafts and belly-boats are all banned along with body surfing and swimming. Violators face fines of $100.

Kayakers and professionally-guided rafters are still allowed.

Tyler Yahn was paddling with confidence in the heavy flows, but the kayaker was glad to see restrictions for those less experienced.

"A lot of it is their lack of knowledge of how dangerous the river can get," Yahn said. "I know how bad it can get, they have no idea."

So far no tickets have been issued. But potential violators are being warned by police.
