Former Teacher Convicted Of Sexually Assaulting A Student Back In Jail

FORT COLLINS, Colo.(CBS4)- A former teacher convicted of sexually assaulting a student is back in jail. Carrie McCandless, 35, is in custody at the Larimer County Jail for a probation violation.

This is McCandless' second probation violation since her 2007 conviction. According to court documents, McCandless was arrested May 10 after she failed a random drug test.

A condition of McCandless' probation is that she may not be in possession of mind-altering substances. The affidavit states that McCandless tested positive for Morphine on April 22. She said she had a prescription for medication from an online pharmacy and that the pharmacy told her drugs wouldn't show up in a drug screening.

McCandless also pleaded guilty to reckless driving in Oct. 2010 after she was arrested for DUI on Sept. 8, 2010.

McCandless was a teacher at Brighton Charter School and married to the school's principal. She pleaded guilty to attempted sexual assault on a 17-year-old student in 2008 after she was arrested for having a sexual liaison with one of her students during an overnight camping trip to Estes Park that she chaperoned.

McCandless was sentenced to 45 days in jail and five years probation. She was last registered in Georgia on the National Sex Offender database.

In 2008, McCandless also spent 30 days in jail for violating probation.
