Still No Verdict In Hiker Attacker Trial
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4)- A jury continues to deliberate the case of a Loveland man accused of attacking two female hikers and robbing women drivers from a motorcycle.
James Bondsteel, 40, faces 23 charges relating to sexual assault, kidnapping, attempted rape and aggravated robbery.
Prosecutors said he tried to sexually assault two women in a remote area in September 2009. The women escaped. They say they want to tell their story after the jury reaches a verdict.
Prosecutors have been relying on evidence that links Bondsteel's DNA to a backpack owned by one of the hikers he's accused of attacking.
Both the defense and prosecutors have pointed to testimony from Bondsteel's former wife. She told the court her husband confessed that he was the one behind the 2009 attacks.
The defense says Tami Bondsteel isn't reliable and "flat-out wrong." Prosecutors say she has provided investigators with details that she only could have learned from Bondsteel himself.
