2 Aurora Teachers To Lose Jobs Despite Protest

AURORA, Colo. (AP) - Two teachers in Aurora will be let go at the end of the school year despite student protests to save their jobs.

The Aurora Sentinel reports that the school board voted to not renew the contracts of two non-tenured teachers on Tuesday. The measure had failed at a meeting the week before but two members changed their votes to support it.

Last week's vote followed an all-day protest by 200 students at Hinkley High School.

Administrators had threatened to suspend them and keep them from attending the prom but didn't punish them.

Board member Jane Barber said the non-renewals were legal but not morally correct. She said the teachers were previously rated as exemplary for but now, as they're eligible for tenure, they're considered bad teachers.
