Dems Pick Hamner To Fill State Rep. Scanlan's Seat

FRISCO, Colo. (AP) - Colorado Democrats have chosen Summit School District Superintendent Millie Hamner to fill the seat of Democratic state Rep. Christine Scanlan.

Scanlan is leaving her seat at the end of the year to join Gov.-elect John Hickenlooper's administration. She will serve as his director of legislative affairs and strategic initiatives.

On Sunday, a vacancy committee of the party chose Hamner from a field of eight candidates to fill Scanlan's seat.

House District 56 includes Summit, Lake and Eagle counties.

Hamner, of Dillon, says she will fight for scarce transportation dollars and work to keep the Western Slope a place that attracts visitors from around the world.
