The Denver Art Museum houses a vast collection of classic and modern art from many different periods. With two multi-floor wings, you can spend the entire afternoon taking in pieces of all types. The museum also hosts a variety of world-class exhibitions, including the current "In Bloom: Flowers in the Age of Impressionism" exhibit which runs through Oct. 11. This exhibition offers an entire collection of floral themed works from Impressionist greats including Manet, Degas and VanGogh.

Tucked in the foothills between Golden and Black Hawk, Golden Gate Canyon State Park offers a great destination for taking a break from the hustle of the city. With fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing and more, the park has plenty to do on a day outing, and it's only 40 minutes from Denver, so you won't spend much of your day driving up to the mountains. Daily park passes are $7-9 per vehicle, and there are picnic areas all over the park. Pack a lunch and spend a day connecting with nature for an affordable price.
