Taught by Patrick Sheridan, the Acting for the Camera classes offered at The Bug Theatre are a great way to learn the techniques required for film acting. Anyone who has ever had the acting bug is encouraged to take a few classes to learn more about on-camera work. Classes are usually held every Tuesday night with new four-week sessions beginning each month. You’ll learn all about screen techniques, connecting with your partner, auditioning for film and much more. Plus, you’ll be learning from one of the local authorities in filmmaking, and you’ll be on your way to meeting all of the people in the Denver filmmaking community.

The SIE Film Center is a great place to discover independent and local film in Denver and it is also a great spot to learn a bit more about the craft. There are always a variety of classes and lectures offered at the SIE Film Center on everything from Film Criticism to marketing and distributing your film or even film history and different genres of filmmaking. Classes change monthly so you’ll want to check the website often to see the variety of lectures and workshops that are being offered. Or you can just head down to this wonderful local theater to discover some great new films on your own.

For those looking for something a bit more in-depth, you may want to consider looking at the Colorado Film School, the only school in town dedicated to awarding Associates of Arts degrees with an emphasis in writing and producing, writing and directing, post production, writing for the screen, acting for the screen or cinematography. You’ll learn all of the important elements to your chosen degree field with lots of hands-on film classes plus you’ll have access to a huge library of equipment and experienced professionals in the field.

If you have a script idea that’s been swirling around in your head but you aren’t sure how to get started in actually transferring that idea to a screenplay, this the class for you. You’ll learn all about the different tools screenwriters use to help make their ideas work on paper. You’ll explore structure, methods and elements and you’ll leave the class with everything you need to create your traditional three-act script. Plus, the classes at Colorado Free University are a wonderful way to learn a bit about a new area without having to dedicate thousands of dollars to huge programs.

Denver Open Media is an organization dedicated to getting the power of media into the hands of the community. It does so through its own public access television stations as well as a variety of classes designed to teach anyone everything they need to know to make media in their chosen genre. At Denver Open Media, you can take classes on editing software like Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premier, or you can learn about other aspects of film like Studio Production or even how to do live streaming. There are a lot of different classes offered for every skill level, and this is a great place to start for anyone looking to get in on the film buzz in Denver.
