For most of us our pets are just like family and that means when they get sick or hurt, we want the very best care for them. Coloradans are fortunate to have plenty of highly trained veterinarians thanks in large part to the program at Colorado State University.

A few years ago I was walking my dog. A driver lost control and went off the road missing me by a few inches but hitting my dog stuttering his pelvis and right leg.

I rushed him over to Alameda East where I first met the wonderful Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald. After his initial exam he explained that they could save my dog, but it would take months of rehab and the dog would have to stay at the hospital. We could not even start to cover the cost and had to consider the alternative.

Dr. Kevin then told us that Alameda East is also a teaching hospital and because of the extreme and unusual nature of my dog’s injuries they would cover the costs if we would agree to letting the dog help to train future vets.

We agreed and to make a long story short, the dog had a complete recovery and several more years of happy life.

I don’t know if Dr Kevin remembers Eechiya, but we sure remember him. Thank you Alameda East, thank you Dr. Kevin.

Dr. Fitzgerald has also helped me tremendously. On Christmas Eve, my Chinese Water Dragon fractured his tail after landing funny from a high fall. I took him to the emergency clinic in Parker, but was turned away because they did not have an exotic animal specialist on hand at that time. They sent me to Alameda East. Dr. Fitzgerald was able to squeeze me in as an “appointment” rather than an emergency visit, which saved me a LOT of money. I’m sure he wanted to go home and be with family on Christmas Eve, but thanks to his willingness to stay, my little buddy was able to be treated.

I am sorry you haven’t mentioned Huron Animal Hospital, located just north of 84th on Huron. They saved my GSD, Ivy, by identifiying her need for thyroid medication when a hospital mentioned above did not. They have given me decent pricing since I owned three dogs, and they were wonderful about helping me when it was time to euthanize my 14 year old lab mix ‘Sage” and again with my 12 year old lab mix ‘Gaia”. I recommend them to all pet owners here north of Denver. They are truly compassionate and competent professionals.

I also work with an AMAZING veterinary practice – Aspen Arbor Animal Hospital in Broomfield (not Denver proper, but in the metro area). They may not be as well-known as the ‘big boys,’ but they do a wonderful job treating my pets.
