Transport yourself back in time to the days of legend and lore. The Colorado Renaissance Festival is coming to town for it’s 36th magical season, and you certainly can’t miss this event. Hundreds of authentic villagers welcome you to the 16th century, as you wander the streets encountering kings, queens, nights, dukes, ladies and wenches. There is entertainment on every corner and so much to see and do. This is one of the most popular summertime activities in Colorado, so be sure to plan ahead.
There is so much to see and do this year that you won’t know where to start first. There are three daily jousts featuring chivalrous knights and brave steeds. Magicians, comics and mimes wander the streets, and acrobats and musicians entertain the crowds. Of course, everyone’s favorite comic duo will be returning as well. Puke and Snot are masters of their unique brand of “Mock Shakespearean Vaudeville” and they are sure to have you rolling in the aisles and laughing all the way home. Don’t miss all the amazing rides and games for all ages. From the old-fashioned carousel to games of skill or just throwing tomatoes as insults, be sure to take advantage of all the fun.
Prepare to shop
More than 200 skilled artisans will be at the festival displaying a huge variety of craftsmanship. Wander the shops and peruse the amazing arts. Enjoy fine art, pottery, jewelry, clothing, woodworking, glassblowing, leather work and so much more. This is the best place to find a unique one-of-a-kind gift for that special someone.
June 30 and July 1
For this weekend only, children 12 and under can enter the festival for free with a paying adult. Take advantage of this great deal to enjoy some of the special activities just for the kids. There will be a prince, princess and pirate costume contest and your kids can participate in the special “Royal Quest.” Winners will be rewarded by King Henry at the Knighting Ceremonies at the Rose Stage. There is always the free Children’s Realm and the Petting Zoo to keep the youngsters entertained. This weekend is the perfect one to get your little ones dressed up to enjoy the fun.
Endangered Cat Show
New this year is an exciting Endangered Cat Show, unlike any cat show you’ve ever seen before. See a black panther, an amur leopard, a lynx and a caracal, all up close and personal. These are not trained animal actors, but instead they have a special bond with their partners and will be here to present as “Ambassadors to the Wild.” Enjoy an educational show featuring the amazing athletic abilities of these wondrous felines.
Wine Revelry Weekend
July 7 and July 8
This weekend is dedicated to wine, or as they call it, “The Nectar of the Gods.” There will be plenty of free samples of some of the finest wines from around the country at the Dancing Bear Pub and you can even participate in the popular Grape Stomp Competition. The grape stomp is always a popular event, where you can compete for prizes and the bragging rights to just how good you are at stomping those grapes.
