Golden Gate Canyon
A wife may have saved her husband’s life after he was struck by lightning and was completely unresponsive outside their home in Golden Gate Canyon.
A brush fire that started west of Golden Monday afternoon grew and prompted mandatory evacuations in the area, but they were later lifted.
Gilpin County was hit hard by strong winds on Sunday. United power says up to 1,500 homes lost power overnight, many of them in Golden Gate Canyon and near Rollinsville.
The Indian Gulch Fire is 77 percent contained Thursday afternoon. It’s burned 1,700 acres in steep, rugged terrain west of Golden.
Firefighters worked through the night to prevent a wildfire burning west of Denver from growing, but it grew t0 1,211 acres by Wednesday afternoon.
Fire crews are fighting a grass fire that’s burned five acres northwest of Golden. The fire began at about 10:15 a.m. Sunday.
