OH, MY ACHING BONES

HealthONE

Do you know that osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and a leading cause of disability worldwide? Because of our active Colorado lifestyle, many of us will need a hip or knee replacement much sooner than our parents. In fact, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) projects a 673 percent spike in total knee replacements and a 174 percent increase in first-time total hip replacements by 2030 in the U.S.

And we are putting our backs to the test, too. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, back disorders account for 27% of all disabling occupational injuries in the United States. And the average direct cost of low-back-injury claims is more than twice that of all other occupational injury claims combined.

As the leader in spine and orthopedic care in Colorado, HealthONE knows that many of us are living in chronic pain but may be fearful of having surgery. When faced with a possible joint replacement or spine surgery, our patients often ask how painful will it be, how long will I be in the hospital, when can I return to my day-to-day activities?

Because of our proven outcomes and commitment to quality, many of our HealthONE hospitals have earned center of excellence credentials in spine and joint care. Our goal is to offer less invasive procedures with shorter hospital stays, faster recovery and a quicker return to the activities and sports that are important to patients. With advancements in both prosthetics and surgical techniques, many of our younger patients are eager to have joint replacement or spine surgeries to relieve pain so they can enjoy their lives more fully.

And if you are a weekend warrior who just happens to get injured doing what you love, check out the Emergency Department (ED) at HealthONE's Sky Ridge Medical Center. Our new Ortho Rapid Access program will schedule you with a surgeon within 24 hours of your ED visit. This new customer focused strategy will soon be rolled out to other HealthONE hospitals.

Take the first step. Get more information on our spine and orthopedic specialists or attend a free seminar to learn more about procedures that might be right for you, go to HealthONEcares.com for all this and more.

HealthONE provides access to the most comprehensive network of spine and orthopedic care in the region to get you back in the game. The HealthONE system of care includes six acute care hospitals, 13 ambulatory surgery centers, seven radiation therapy centers and more than 30 outpatient imaging centers.
