SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)– Snow and ice are causing difficult driving conditions in the high country, which has the Colorado Department of Transportation closing some portions of Interstate 70.
Both directions of I-70 were closed at Empire due to winter driving conditions.
Earlier, westbound lanes of I-70 were closed at Empire Junction at 5 p.m. on Friday. Drivers were urged to expect an extended closure.
About the same time, eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed at Vail Pass due to spin-outs. It was unclear how long that portion of I-70 would be closed.
CDOT urged drivers to be prepared for adverse driving conditions that include snow and slick roads.
