Both directions of I-70 were closed at Empire due to winter driving conditions.

Earlier, westbound lanes of I-70 were closed at Empire Junction at 5 p.m. on Friday. Drivers were urged to expect an extended closure.

About the same time, eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed at Vail Pass due to spin-outs. It was unclear how long that portion of I-70 would be closed.

CDOT urged drivers to be prepared for adverse driving conditions that include snow and slick roads.
