Police say it all began when Acevedo ran away from Denver Health Medical Center, barefoot, after causing a disturbance at the hospital at 7th and Bannock. He tried to steal a bicycle from a rider at W. 7th Avenue and N. Fox Street.

When that didn't work, police say he tried to force his way into several occupied vehicles before he successfully got into a gold Subaru. He struggled with the victim in the front seat of her car near 8th and Galapago.

That victim, Angela Karami, spoke to CBS4's Dominic Garcia.

"He backed into another car and then flew the car forward. I fell out of the car as it was driving away and at that point I just let go because it's not worth it," said Karami.

Acevedo then drove northbound on Santa Fe Drive in the stolen Subaru, driving recklessly on his way to the N. Lowell Boulevard exit on Interstate 70. As he approached the exit, he caused another four-car accident and sped away.

Acevedo kept losing control of the stolen Subaru and struck a vehicle at W. 51st Avenue and N. Lowell Boulevard, struck a parked vehicle at W. 51st Avenue, causing it to strike another parked vehicle.

Acevedo abandoned the Subaru at E. 51st Avenue and Emerson Street where he stole a white Chevrolet Express van and drove north into Adams County where he caused multiple accidents and sped away.

He finally crashed the van and caused a three-vehicle accident at N. Federal Boulevard and the exit ramp of Interstate 76. An undercover Denver police officer reached the scene and took Acevedo into custody.
