After learning of the alleged assault, Hollingsworth was placed on administrative leave by the school district during an investigation.

The Boulder County Sheriff's Office said that the investigation revealed that the altercation between Hollingsworth and a 17-year-old student stemmed from the student's use of profanity in class. The class had been warned about using profanity earlier during the class. Hollingsworth reportedly told the class that the next person who used profanity would get into some sort of trouble and might possibly be hit or kicked.

After Hollingsworth's warning, one student continued to use profanity while singing along with a song while working out. Hollingsworth reportedly approached the student and began to apply pressure to the teen's neck which caused the student to struggle to breathe.

Hollingsworth then kneed the teen in the groin and he fell to the ground.

More than two dozen other students were in the class at the time of the assault.

Hollingsworth turned himself into the Boulder County Jail on Friday morning where he was booked on charges of second-degree assault and third-degree assault. He was released on bond and is scheduled to return to court on Dec. 8.

Hollingsworth is also the football coach at the high school.
