Inmates Get Hand-Me-Down Uniforms From Ohio

By Matt Kroschel

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. (CBS4)- Occasionally viewers notice things inside our stories that, frankly, we don't. So when a very keen-eyed viewer emailed to ask why the Summit County, Colorado inmate jumpsuits read Summit County, OH- we investigated.

The story "Inmates Create Origami Peace Cranes For Art Installation" featured an inmate working to install a new art piece inside the Summit County Justice Center.

According to Summit County Sheriff Detention Cmdr. Bourgerie, a detention facility in Summit County, Ohio changed their inmate color schemes a couple of years ago. Instead of letting the uniforms go to waste, they donated the orange uniforms to the Summit County Sheriff's Office in Breckenridge.

"Those inmate uniforms are being used to save our taxpayers some money in purchasing new uniforms," the commander told CBS4 Friday.

Thank you for watching and taking notice of small details- unidentified viewer- and thanks Summit County for being thrifty. Reduce, reuse and recycle.
