Mike Pence In Colorado: Ignore The Headlines About Trump

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - The Trump campaign released a map this week showing Colorado is still a battleground state up for grabs in the presidential race, and his campaign continues to make a strong push here.

Republican Vice Presidential nominee Mike Pence rallied supporters in Colorado Springs, the most conservative part of Colorado, on Wednesday night.

It was a traditional "get out the vote" speech that included endorsements for Republicans up and down the ticket.

Pence told supporters to ignore current headlines about Trump's campaign.

"You guys have to turn on the TV in the morning with a stick. Are you with me on that?" Pence said. "I don't even know what's going to be there any given day."

On the campaign trail Donald Trump has sparked outrage, saying the election may be rigged if he loses. Pence continues to defend that claim.

"I think when you look at the overwhelming bias of the national media, not the local media ... it's clear that Hillary Clinton has a lot of support in the mainstream press. And there seems to be an effort on the part of many in the media to drive this election toward a success for Hillary Clinton," he told CBS4.

Hundreds appeared in energetic fashion at the rally, but polls show Trump is down or even in most battleground states as his campaign continues to be dogged by bad publicity.

"Early voting returns right now show Democrats overwhelmingly bringing more people to the polls than Republicans. Are you worried at all that over the last two weeks enthusiasm has been sucked out of the campaign?" CBS4's Stan Bush asked Pence after the rally.

"I just continue to see the enthusiasm grow," Pence said. "You saw this dynamic crowd tonight here in Colorado, I saw the same in Nevada and in Utah and campaigning with Donald Trump over the weekend the thousands and thousands of people that are coming out."

For Pence, the stops this week in Utah (Wednesday) and Nebraska (Thursday), which are both traditionally Republican strongholds, are an example of the challenges the Trump campaign is facing with 11 days until Election Day.
