Police: No Threat To Neighborhood After 1 Shot Dead

DENVER (CBS4) - Police said there was no threat to the public after a man was shot and killed inside a home early Sunday morning.
Officers rushed to the home in the 4700 block of Ireland Court in Green Valley Ranch after reports of shots fire before 6 a.m. Sunday.
"When officers arrived on scene to a residence in that block, they located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds," said Doug Schepman, spokesman for the Denver Police Department.
Schepman said the victim had been shot more than once, which ultimately lead to his death. However, police were not sure what lead up to the shooting.
"Our detectives are still working to get statements, and to process the scene," Schepman said.
Police could not publically identify the victim until next of kin were notified. Investigators did not release a description of the suspect, or suspects, in the deadly shooting.
"We need to do our due diligence, and make sure we have all of our facts strait, before we discuss what may have happened there," Schepman said.
Residents near the home told CBS4 they were awoken by police knocking at their doors, seeking information on the shooting. Some said the neighborhood is commonly very quiet, and police are rarely seen responding to calls in the area.
After obtaining a search warrant, police were able to enter the home for crime scene investigation. Schepman said police were trying to determine why the victim was inside the home.
"It appears that the individual who was shot is not a resident of that address," Schepman said.
While police continued their search for those responsible for the murder, they said the community should not fear for their safety in relation to this case.
"We don't believe that there is imminent risk to people in that area," Schepman said.
