Wildland Crews Contain More Of Hertha Ridge Fire

BERTHOUD, Colo. (CBS4) - Crews battling a wildfire in Larimer County announced Thursday afternoon that they have achieved 75 percent containment.

The Hertha Ridge Fire broke out on Wednesday near Berthoud and has burned about 75 acres. Voluntary evacuation orders were in place during the most critical hours of the fight.

Approximately 70 emergency personnel were assigned to fight the fire on Thursday.

At least 20 homes were threatened by the fire. For several hours shifting winds made it more difficult to save one home the flames came closest to. A shed on the property was destroyed.

"It's just so dry, and the dry conditions with the tall, dry grass up here -- that's been the biggest factor," Larimer County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Bobby Moll said.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined. No injuries have been reported.
