'At Least 1' Injured In I-25 Crash That Shut Down Interstate

DENVER (CBS4) - A crash on northbound Interstate 25 shut down travel for several hours south of Denver early Thursday morning.

It began at 2 a.m. with a two-car crash on I-25 at mile marker 164, near the East Greenland Road exit. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said the airbags deployed and the highway was closed.

Shortly after, another crash occurred on I-25 at mile marker 164, closing northbound lanes at County Line Road. Colorado State Patrol of Castle Rock said alcohol was involved. A silver vehicle was stopped in traffic when an impaired driver rear-ended it, causing injury.

The crash near Monument was the second DUI crash of two back to back, said CSP. Traffic was stopped for the first investigation when the second one occurred.

At least one of the people involved, a driver or passenger, was injured.

Lanes were reopened by 6:30 a.m., but backups remained through the morning rush hour.
