Daytime Manners Give Way To A Little Nighttime Rowdiness At Cheyenne Frontier Days

By Jason Hussong, CBSDenver.com

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (CBS4) – The annual Cheyenne Frontier Days celebration of everything Old West returns this Friday for its 120th year, and is jam-packed with a whole lot of fun … and manners.

"We've really put a focus into our event of really improving the Western experience," said Tom Hirsig, the Cheyenne Frontier Days CEO. "When you walk through our front gate you walk into an Old West town."

To go with that experience is the world's largest outdoor rodeo, the "Daddy of Them All." Drawing some of the top professionals in the business, they'll compete for more than $1 million in prizes.

"If people have been to a rodeo, it's quite a bit different than most of them that they've seen," said Frank Thompson, Cheyenne Frontier Days Arena Director. "Just the size of the arena and the cattle that we have there. It's quite unique and it's awfully exciting."

That's right! Or, rather, yes, ma'am … or sir.

"One of the best parts about going to the rodeo, especially if you're going to take the family, you're going to an event where you're going to hear lots of people say 'yes, ma'am,' 'no, sir,' 'thank you,' 'please,'" said Hirsig. "It's a very Western tradition that you go to. It's nothing like going to the Broncos-Raiders game by any means."

All of that rowdiness is all reserved for the night when Cheyenne Frontier Days welcomes some of the biggest musical acts around.

Included in the lineup is Kenny Chesney, Florida Georgia Line, Jake Owen, and KISS. Sam Hunt with Maddie & Tae kick it all off Friday night.
