Arvada Pulls Plug On Proposed Shooting Range

ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4) - The City of Arvada and Jefferson County are pulling the plug on a proposed outdoor shooting range.
City and county leaders were met with backlash from the community during numerous public meetings, including residents in the nearby Leyden Rock neighborhood.
The county says it took hundreds of comments from the community into consideration when making a final decision.
The shooting range would have been near Highway 93 and 82nd street on city-owned property.
Now, the city and county are they're left to find an alternative to the quiet area residents hope stays that way.
Jefferson County says their research shows 32 percent of their residents own a gun, but the closest range to shoot safely is at least 35 miles away.
