4 Injured In Fireworks Show In Fairplay

FAIRPLAY, Colo. (CBS4)- Four people were injured in the 4th of July fireworks show in Fairplay on Monday night.

The celebration was cut short when a mortar exploded prematurely about 10 feet off the ground. That explosion ignited a container filled with about 100 mortars, and caused all of them to explode.

Two ambulances rushed to the scene where an employee of the Town of Fairplay was rushed to Summit Medical Center in Frisco. Three others were treated and released at the scene.

"The Town is conducting an investigation into this incident. We are committed to creating a safe environment for future fireworks displays and hope that the community will continue to support our Fourth of July events," said Town Administrator Tina Darrah in a statement.

No one else was injured.
