Dry Conditions Help Fuel Beaver Creek Fire

WALDEN, Colo. (CBS4)- Fire crews continue to patrol and mop up hot spots at the Beaver Creek Fire.

The fire has burned more than 13,000 acres since it started June 19. What sparked the fire remains under investigation.

Fire crews continue to work to protect the five dozen threatened structures in the area. Firefighters closed off two more areas, Independence Mountain and Boettcher Ridge, on Sunday.

Firefighters are also seeing wildlife, like a moose and calf who were captured on camera, returning to their natural habitats in the area.

Recent cool, moist air has helped crews make progress but anticipate the fire warmer temperatures to dry out fuels. Firefighters are working with heavy equipment and hand tools along the existing fire line.
