Noodles & Company Diner's Credit Cards May Be Compromised

By Kelly Werthmann

DENVER (CBS4) - Guests who dined at Noodles & Company, including 60 locations in Colorado, may have had their credit or debit card accounts compromised.

The popular restaurant chain notified customers of the security breach earlier this week after the company discovered "unusual activity" in their credit card processors in mid-May. According to a notice posted on the company's website, the security breach affects several restaurants in 27 states as well as Washington, D.C.

"[A] recent data security incident may have compromised the security of payment information of some guests who used debit or credit cards at certain Noodles & Company locations between January 31, 2016 and June 2, 2016," the online notice reads. "We contained the incident once the malware was identified and credit and debit cards used at the affected locations identified are no longer at risk from the malware affected in this incident."

A third-party forensic investigator is looking into the issue in an effort to identify any signs of compromise on its computer systems. Through the investigative team, Noodles & Company confirmed malware may have stolen credit or debit care data from some guests, including the cardholder's name, card number, expiration date and CVV, according to the online notice.

"Noodles & Company takes the security of our guests' information extremely seriously, and we apologize for the inconvenience this incident has caused our guests," Kevin Reddy, Chairman and CEO of Noodles & Company, stated.

The company is also working with law enforcement and the United State Secret Service to get to the root of the issue.

A spokesperson with Noodles & Company, which is based in Broomfield, declined an interview with CBS4, but referred customers to their website for additional information on what happened.
