Family Of Man Shot By Police At Funeral Home Files Lawsuit

DENVER (CBS4)- The family of a man who was shot by police outside a funeral home nearly two years ago has filed a lawsuit claiming excessive deadly force.

District Attorney Mitch Morrissey said the four officers fired to defend themselves after 21-year-old Ryan Ronquillo tried to hit them with his car on July 2, 2014. Police say they were trying to arrest Ronquillo on outstanding warrants when he put his car in reverse and hit two officers in the parking lot of a funeral home where a service was taking place.

The fired, hitting Ronquillo four times.

His family's attorney released this statement regarding the lawsuit: The shooting of Ryan Ronquillo involves yet another needless death in this continuing national frenzy of police shootings. In this mere property crime case involving a stolen car, the police denied Ryan Ronquillo all chance to surrender.
