1 Dead After 3-Alarm Fire At Apartment Building

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- One person died and another was injured in a three-alarm fire at an apartment complex in Aurora on Saturday night.

The fire broke out just after 7:30 p.m. at Heather Gardens in the 14000 block of East Linvale Place in Aurora.

Firefighters responded to the fire with eight fire engines, four ladder trucks, two battalion chiefs and five ambulances.

Two people were rushed to the hospital. One person died a short time later. The second patient suffered moderate injuries and was observed at the hospital overnight.

Fire investigators said the cause of the fire was unattended cooking. Residents living in a dozen sixth floor apartments were displaced. The Red Cross helped residents with housing.

A dog also died in the fire.
