Man Sentenced For 20-Year-Old Murder

DENVER (CBS4)- A man who pleaded guilty to a nearly 20-year-old murder in Denver has been sentenced.

Sheldon Long pleaded guilty earlier this year to one count of second-degree murder. He was sentenced to 42 years in prison, six years shy of the maximum possible sentence.

On Oct. 30, 1996, police in Denver responded to the 2700 block of Madison Street on a report of a shooting. Officers found the victim, Darryl Givens, lying in the street with gunshot wounds. He later died at the scene.

As part of Denver's Cold Case Project, Givens' murder was put under review by a cold case detective. The review included re-interviewing witnesses and resulted in identifying Long, 43, and co-defendant Antonio Domena, 45. Domena was acquitted following a trial last week.
