Boulder Giving Out Free Native Plants To Residents Who Remove Myrtle Spurge

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - The City of Boulder is encouraging the community to remove myrtle spurge from their properties and bring the noxious weeds to the fourth annual Purge the Spurge event this Saturday.

The city will provide residents who bring the pulled weeds with free native plants. They've been grown without pesticides.

"Myrtle spurge is considered a noxious weed because it proliferates easily, outcompetes native plants, and has toxic milky sap that can cause severe skin irritation and blistering," the city said in a statement. "Be sure to wear gloves, pants, long sleeves and eye protection while handling the weed."

Purge the Spurge will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the Open Space and Mountain Parks' Administration Building located at 66 South Cherryvale Road.
