Bill Would Make Corporations Keep 'Mile High' In Name Of Broncos' Stadium
DENVER (CBS4) - A bill introduced at the Colorado state Capitol would guarantee the name "Mile High" will always be associated with the stadium where the Denver Broncos play.
It was a coincidence that the day the legislation was introduced there was a report in Wall Street Journal that Sports Authority is abandoning a plan to reorganize. Sports Authority currently holds the naming rights to the stadium.
The details of Sports Authority's decision to liquidate were revealed during a U.S. bankruptcy court hearing on Tuesday. The Englewood-based retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month.
The Wall Street Journal reports Sports Authority will likely sell its assets to different buyers.
Under the new bill any corporation who wants to invest in naming rights to the stadium would be required to include "Mile High" in the name just as Sports Authority did with Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
The stadium opened in 2001 after the demolition of the old Mile High Stadium.
