Lawmakers To Introduce Plan To Bring Back Colorado's Presidential Primary

DENVER (CBS4) - Lawmakers have come up with a plan to bring back Colorado's presidential primary and will outline a bill on Thursday at the state Capitol to fix voters' frustrations.

Lines stretched for blocks as people waited for hours to vote in Colorado's Democratic caucuses in March. Republicans were frustrated at the process as well.

Lawmakers now hope a measure will fix the problem and put Colorado back on the map.

"People are wondering why their voice is not heard, and during the primary cycle why are the candidates flying over Colorado; we've become a flyover state," said Rep. Tim Dore, R-Elbert-Baca Counties. "So we want to address that concern and we want to say to Coloradans, our citizens and out state, that if you want to participate in this process, you should be allowed to … and you should have the opportunity to vote."

Colorado had a primary before 2002. The state changed the process to save money.
