East High Student Enters Guilty Plea In BB Gun Incident
DENVER (CBS4) - Elhadji Samba Dioum, 19, pled guilty Friday morning to a gun incident at East High School in December.
As part of the negotiated guilty plea, charges of attempted aggravated robbery, menacing, and theft were dismissed. Dioum pled guilty to third-degree assault.
He was sentenced to two years of supervised probation, and must perform 175 hours of community service. A protection order was extended, which prohibits Dioum from going to the school or school events.
The charges come from an incident Dec. 3, 2015 in which Dioum attempted to rob a student at East High and threatened to shoot him with a BB gun.
Dioum's attorney said the whole thing was a misunderstanding.
"You can try to teach sensitivity and you can try to teach kids who come from other countries how to assimilate but there are some things that are so deeply embedded that they can't be taught, they have to be experienced," said attorney Robert Blume.
Several students also claim it was a misunderstanding.
