22 Taken To Hospital In Chemical Incident At Rec Center

LAFAYETTE, Colo. (CBS4) - A total of 22 people were taken to the hospital late Saturday afternoon after an apparent chemical incident at the rec center in Lafayette.

The Bob L. Burger Recreation Center was evacuated shortly after 4:10 p.m. due to "a potential chemical incident in the pool area," a city spokeswoman said. However, several tests were done, and no lingering gas or chemical levels in the air were detected.

The rec center is located at the intersection of Public Road and Baseline Road.

Those who were evacuated will be allowed back in to the center on Sunday between noon and 5 p.m. to retrieve possessions they left behind. The rec center will be closed to the public on Sunday and so far it's not clear if it will reopen on Monday.
