Man Accused In Christmas Night Head-On Crash Charged With 11th DUI
DENVER (CBS4) - The case of a man who has been charged with his 11th DUI was bound over for trial on Wednesday.
According to Lynn Kimbrough with the district attorney's office, Ramon Medrano-Corral, 54, has been charged with four counts of vehicular assault, two counts of second-degree assault, and two counts of DUI.
"The charges allege that on Christmas night … Medrano-Corral was driving drunk near 48th Avenue and Inca Street when he crashed head on into another car, seriously injuring two people," Kimbrough said in a statement.
Kimbrough said the "charges further allege that Medrano-Corral has 10 prior DUIs dating back more than two decades."
Nearly a year ago, after much debate and emotional testimony from families impacted by repeat drunk drivers, lawmakers passed the bill making a fourth DUI a felony. In June Gov. John Hickenlooper made it law.
Medrano-Corral remains in custody with his bond set at $50,000. He is scheduled to appear court on Feb. 29.
