Lakewood Mayor Adam Paul's Statement

Feb. 12, 2016 – Mayor Adam Paul has issued the following statement about the federal government's decision not to open a temporary shelter for undocumented immigrant children at the Federal Center in Lakewood.

It's a relief to learn of the federal government's decision to end its effort to open the shelter at the Federal Center. Because of the short time frame for opening the center, the lack of information regarding the community impacts and concern regarding the conditions for these kids, I was concerned about it from the moment it was announced. The communication with the federal government has been challenging. I hope a better process can be established in the future, and I wish the best for these children.
